In the beginning of March, a team of PPRD experts in emergency planning and preparedness, risk assessment and early warning systems was in Armenia to finalise the work on the enhancement of the emergency management plan of the pilot area. This involved integrating protocols for early actions and trounsbandary elements, particolarly focusing on to cross-border activities.
The development of risk scenarios and the adaptation of the plan to specific risks played an crucial role to conclude the work on the methodology shared from the Italian Red Cross througout the project, which supported the partner countries in moving the focus of the planning from response to prevention and preparedness.
The long term collaboration between the Italian Red Cross and CIMA Research Foundation brought a complete and deeper understanding of the essential interlinkage between prevention, planning, and the importance of keeping to work on new solutions to be better prepared and more efficient in responding to disasters.
With regard to engaging Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Academia on early preventive measures and cross-border actions, the Red Cross's international role and its potential to structure support from other national societies and IFRC, was envisaged in the context to emergency management.
A delegation from Georgian Emergency Management System joined the workshop to continue working on the Regional Cooperation Plan with Armenian colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This collaborative effort, initiated during the Transboundary Planning Event carried out by the National Training Center of Italian Red Cross in Bresso, Milan in January, will continue in Georgia during the next technical advisory mission.
